Belugas, Birds and Blooms Whale Excursion Winnipeg to Churchill 8 Days/7 Nights
The Beluga’s, Birds and Blooms tour is an absolutely amazing adventure, truly the best kept secret in Churchill. Churchill, Manitoba is “the” place to experience thousands of beluga whales up close and personal. During the summer the Churchill River has the largest concentration of beluga whales in the world. Over 3,000 beluga whales spend time there birthing their young and feeding on crustaceans found in the warm water of the river. Also, the summer months in Churchill are an excellent time to enjoy the birds, flowers, history and culture of the area, as well as other northern wildlife.

Welcome to Winnipeg! Your hotel is a short taxi ride from the airport. Don’t say “What will I do in Winnipeg?” The city has excellent museums, very good restaurants and an active cultural community that supports ballet, theater and musical events. Overnight – Delta Winnipeg
Days 2 & 3 – VIA Rail Winnipeg to Churchill Your train departs at 8:45pm. Churchill is only accessible by air or train. The train trip is two nights and one day, over tracks that were built in 1929 over permafrost and muskeg. It took 3,000 men to lay the 1,000 miles of track to Churchill. Overnights – VIA Rail
Day 4 – Arrive Churchill Eat an early breakfast on the train as you are due to arrive at 8:30am. Upon arrival in Churchill you will be met for some local sightseeing. After your sightseeing tour, you will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight – Churchill (hotel to be determined)
Day 5 – Beluga Whale & Prince of Wales Fort Boat Excursion Today you will depart by boat and discover hundreds of beluga whales in the mouth of the Churchill River. During the summer the Churchill River has the largest concentration of beluga whales in the world. Over 3000 belugas spend time there birthing their young and feeding on crustaceans found in the warm water of the river. After your boat tour, travel across the river to tour the Price of Wales Fort National Historic Site of Canada, the oldest most northerly stone fort in the country. Here you can experience the history of the Hudson’s Bay Company and the fur trade of the 1700’s. The Parks Canada Visitor Centre in Churchill provides an excellent introduction to the sites with exhibits and special presentations.
This afternoon you are free to explore Churchill on your own. You can visit the Eskimo Museum, Parks Canada facility and the town complex. Visitors can choose from a number of gift shops where souvenirs range from postcards to handmade Inuit wall hangings and stone carvings. Overnight – Churchill (hotel to be determined)
Day 6 – Beluga Whale Zodiac Tour & Tundra Buggy® Tour This morning you have a guided excursion into the beluga whale estuary in a Zodiac. You will experience the largest beluga whale population in the world at surface level.
This afternoon you will embark on a half-day Tundra Buggy® tour. This four hour tour will travel along the coast, providing you with a magnificent view of the Hudson Bay, while experiencing the vast beauty of the tundra flora and fauna. You will have a chance to view and photograph wildlife, flora and fauna and even walk on the tundra, the same tundra polar bears roam in the fall months. Overnight – Churchill (hotel to be determined)
Day 7 – Return to Winnipeg This morning you will depart Churchill for your flight to Winnipeg. Upon arrival take a taxi to your hotel Overnight – Delta Winnipeg
Day 8 – Winnipeg home You have joined a small group of travelers who have been to Churchill to see the beluga whales. Treasure the experience.
